LawnRight Lawn Care

Lawn Care Tips that work? Discover how to get a nicer Greener lawn. Hi, I'm Shaun, and I run Lawnright Ltd (a lawn care business in South Yorkshire, United Kingdom). I'm also fanatical about lawns. This channel is here to provide lawn care tips, advice and help for all lawn care enthusiasts, as well as showcase some of the work I get up to on a daily basis.
As a lawn care provider, I get to visit hundreds of lawns each month. This gives me a chance to see what's happening out there and provide solutions. It also means I get to put solutions down in videos right here.
At times, my tips may push the boundaries of what is generally accepted. However, these are given because I have tested them and produced results. As a lawn care business owner, we often have very limited windows of time to apply certain products or carry out certain procedures, so this is what has forced me to try things out during times when it is less than perfect.
Thanks for viewing my channel. Shaun

This DIRT CHEAP Kitchen Tool Will TRANSFORM Your Lawn care
Grab the apple corer here on Amazon: amzn.to/4bY2gk1
This one cheap budget simple kitchen tool really has become a firm favourite for me. Truly! It makes light work of removing single weeds that are either hard to kill, or you don't want to use weedkiller.
Plus it aerates the soil at the same time.. and a compacted lawn can sometimes be an indication of weeds.

Talk about the wrong time of year! Well.. kinda.. This lawn renovation had been waiting for weeks.. We had all the rain earlier in May and that held us up.. then this customer went on holiday for 2 weeks.. When he got back it was June. My personal cut off time for renovations is Mid May.. A renovation usually wants 6 weeks to come through and get reasonably well established.. If we hit major he...
Nature is pretty amazing stuff

For millions of years the earth has been self sufficient. Why is it that we come along in the most recent 100 or so years and think we know it all? Much like the Grand Canyon was carved out over millions of years by running water, the passage of time works in small consistent steps day after day to do what's right. Nature has a funny old way of doing the right thing. For sure we can fix and put...

Hi Shaun keep it up you are doing a great job and having fun making some brilliant videos superstar Ali Walsall west midlands england junction 10 m6 Walsall churckery up the walsall
Thanks 😊😊
Just shows you what can be achieved, you taught him well.😀😀😀
All his own work 😊😊😊😊 I can't take credit
@@LawnRight He watches your videos, keep up the good work.
I've not seen such a boring front garden in a long time. A beautiful job, which would look much better at the cricket green.
Looks incredible to me 🙀
Very impressive, definitely the right type of grass, I put turf down on my front lawn 3 years ago and it does pop an look good but it definitely a rubbish grade of grass. I’d redo the back completely but it’s now my dogs toilet so I struggling to keep ontop of it while still letting him run on it
Pets.. Love em or hate em. (we love em 😂)
@@LawnRight yes well I love em 😅 dont think I could keep him off it for a few weeks while I seeded it so will have to make do on the back. It’s a mixture of old grass and new but when in the heat of spring lays some amazing lines better than 99% of peoples grass put it that way so it is possible with abit of work
OK, the lawn is amazing... but no way I'm buying 4 different lawnmowers for such a tiny patch. The effort has paid off, no doubt there but too much for me.
4 is overkill, but I can't talk I have 3 🤣🤣
Why do you need so many lawn mowers ? I only have one am I doing things wrong lol 😊
Some mowers are better at picking up wet grass than others etc, some are lighter than others and some of them do stripes
@@eddiecotter7201 Ah right thank you for your input. I wondered how you got the lovely perfect lines
As Eddie says.. He has 2 older ones for the general cuts and a roller one for the striping and one more
That is beautiful 😊
It puts mine to shame 🤣🙀🙀
I'll give 10000 wows for that one 👌👌👍👍 the best I've seen Shaun. some of mine are looking ok but not in that league. do you watch Daniel hibbert he's got some nice ones.
Hi. Definitely a few wows 🤣🤣
Just shows what you can when you follow good instructions, well done to your customer and well done to you Shaun
I'm just the camera man 🤔😁😁
I've been following your advice and my lawn has done a complete 180 from this year to last year!!🎉
Yes! Love this! 😁😁😁🙀
Looks fab Shaun. I've been following you also. My lawn is looking better but still a way to go yet. I've noticed some red looking grass or ? Any ideas what it is or what I should do. Cheers. Geoff
Hi it could simply be red stems (at the base of the grass blade.. Usually thick.. Will be a rye variety like yorkshire fog.. But could actually be red thread fungus if os some Fertiliser should help
Some of us can't afford a verticutter. Can i use my scarifier 2 weekly and if so, what depth into soil should i set it at. Amanda xxx
Hi Amanda 😊. As its a bit more aggressive I'd go on the lightest setting possible so it's not quite scratching soil.. If this isn't possible and it goes into the soil then just revert back to a slower schedule maybe 3 or 4 times at most a year
@LawnRight thank you lawn stud. Amanda xxx
Mighta been quicker to dig it all out and bring in nice stuff 😂
,😁
Does it automatically suspend watering when its rainy or do you have to skip it manually?
I think it suspend it.. Haven't used it for a year sorry so my minds a bit rusty 😩
Great information on weeds names, this video is a must keep for me. 👍
You're welcome
As long as the grass is still actively growing and the customer can guarantee to keep up with the watering regime. I'll scarify etc at anytime. I don't normally have a cut off period tbh. That said. What the customer promises about watering and what they actually do can be totally different things 🙄
Absolutely yes mate totally agree.. Then it's our fault isn't it 🤣🤣
@@LawnRight Yup. 😐
Twice, sometimes 3 times a week weather permitting.
Nice 😁😊👍
Great advice how do you control crab grass in fairly large patches
if you're in the uk we don't legally have any chemical control so regular verticutting will help weaken it
I have a question for you. What about verticutting? Would you stick to the same schedule as scarifying? I scarified a couple of weeks ago and the lawn is still recovering and I still notice there’s some brown patches and possibly dead grass.
Hi Id give it a few more weeks to recover from scarifying, then you could vertical every few weeks if needed
Enjoyed the video and info. However, it is much easier to maintain that tiny yard than the 3/4 of an acre yard I have. You would not be doing all the hand work and raking on a much larger yard as mine by yourself. Need a video on maintaining a much larger yard. Thank you.
Agreed.. I don't really have too mnay customers who have much larger yards who want it doing. I've done one or two, so I've never invested in any machinery that would cater to larger sizes.. But def worth considering for the future
If you scratch in and top dress the seeds... Wait a week and lightly scratch in some more, and then a third time you should be able to spread were necessary. Top dressing should be simply a handfull of peat moss watered in. Weather is a bitch! I feel your pain! That compost is a bit of coin due to rain... that's why I use peat moss. cheap but effective.
Thanks. Really helpful to get the names of some of these common weeds we often see in our gardens and be able to identify how they propagate
you're welcome :)
I was musing about your apple corer while doing my edges today with my latest gadget. I have raided the decorating tools for the long bladed wallpaper scissors (shears) to do my lawn edges. Lovely and sharp and long. Added that to my carving knife for cutting lawn edges against paving and the vegetable knife for clearing tight crevices between slabs.
Yes, brilliant!!
None of these manual bullshits ever work because the tines get clogged hell up and never works. Its a scam
Hi even my machines clog a lot. Eventually what's inside will get pushed out. I don't worry too much as long as its making holes it's improving things more than if it wasn't carried out. I see it a lot. On my machines I can do a lawn an dyou can see even holes across the lawn but then you'll find there isn't a core on all of them
@LawnRight huh? Didn't know the mechanical aerators get clogged too! I had my fair share of manual ones because I don't want to spend $3,000 on a core aerator, but obviously I hate those manual ones... may have to do with the devilish texas clay as well. Anyway thank you for the insight
Should have come to my garden Shaun...i had about 8000 varieties 😂😂😂
I'll know for next time 😁😁😁
@@LawnRight Yes! We need full episode of "David Shaun Attenborough" :)
Pretty sure I have all of the weeds in my front lawn. They blow in from the communal areas and other lawns. I uploaded a video if you are interested. It's going ok but I may turn the left small bit into a planting area and possibly extend the boarder up the lawn depending on if it thins in the winter. I tried my best this year and if grass doesn't satay thick then I'm giving up on growing in in a north facing lawn.
Ill check out your lawn :)
@@LawnRight Thanks a lot !
Can you imagine what a lawn would look like if it never been done and they finally do it
This might be a stupid question, but do you have to rake up the blackened moss afterwards?
Hi.. Not stupid at all 😊😊. I welcome your question. So yes ideally it should be raked out once it's gone black
@@LawnRightok great. Thanks!
"ragwort" Sounds like patwa.
Resolva for lawns got rid of my woodrush after about 2 weeks or so but doesn't seem to have much effect on speedwell or clover
You could try a 2nd spray on the unaffected weeds right away but just make sure you're only spot spraying the weeds, not the whole lawn.. Take note of the maximum number of applications allowed a year. Speedwell is quite resistant. Ideally something with flouroxypyr in it
@@LawnRight Thanks Shaun, will give it a go and see how I get on.
Your basic 3 & 4 way herbicides should get rid of the clover, like Shaun mentioned a second application of spot treatments should be effective. Using a surfactant makes a big difference. Add a bit of citric acid (1/4 tsp per gallon of water). The citric acid acts as a sticker/surfactant and lowers the pH of the herbicide solution making it more effective
Been having the lawn treated for years and can hand on heart say we never get a single weed on it. Was this a new lawn you’ve taken on?
It's just a quote I've been to today so not even a customer yet. Will see. A good percentage do give us a try
@@LawnRight I thought so as no way there would be that many if they were already on the rounds 👍🏻
I do the same with a bulb planter, they are bigger. they go deep enough to simply turn the removed mud upsides down to plug the hole. Reseed. Bosh
Would I be able to use this technique in order to improve/ breakdown clay soil under my turf somehow? It's driving me mad with all the rain we have had the past 12 months now! Won't drain, and once the rain comes again, I need wellies just to walk on my lawn, and it's June for goodness sake!
You'd be better with a proper tool like a manual lanw aerator, or bulb planter otol on a drill a sthe osil iell be harder to push through
We had one similar for picking weeds that was on a pole so you could do it without bending down
Love it!
I’m gonna hydro-seed my yard
Put weed puller tool in to Google or Amazon and you'll find hundreds of things called weed pullers or papa's tool that you can use standing up and does the exact same thing.
I THINK I WANT A LAWN NOW. BUT IT HAS TO BE THIS GUY DO IT. I COULD WATCH HIM ALL DAY.
I'M SORRY TO HEAR THIS. MY MOM PASSED AWAY ON THE 7TH, NINE DAYS AGO, JUST THE DAY AFTER MY BIRTHDAY. IN A WAY I WAS PLEASED AS SHE WOULD NOT HAVE MADE A GOOD PATIENT HAD SHE HAVE ANYTHING LONG TERM. I GUESS WE ALL HAVE A TIME TO GO. LOOK AFTER YOURSELF TILL THEN.
I have the opposite problem with my lawn being nothing but sandy loam that will not retain any water for the plants. So I have drilled holes in my yard and filled with liquified bentonite clay to hold water for the plants and the grass.
Would this work with poa?
If its very small it should do 🤞🤞🤞
I’ve always been twice a week guy on me days off and I’ve stopped mowing on the lowest aswell
Eight minutes to say what he could of said in 30 seconds 🙄 Good idea though tbf
